Устоявшееся название опросника некорректно. Сама по себе Q-сортировка – метод факторного анализа, разработанный Уильямом Стефенсоном, его основной принцип – распределение утверждений (физических карточек) на группы с определенным числом элементов в каждой. Авторы взяли за основу опросника исследование самооценки поведения в группе из книги «Emotional Dynamics and Group Culture», которое называется «Self-perceptual Q-Sort» и использует метод Стефенсона. Свою методику так и назвали, но базовый принцип Q-сортировки – распределение элементов на группы – при адаптации не был сохранен.
