Life history strategy is a concept from evolutionary psychology that refers to a broad pattern of how individuals allocate time, energy, and resources across growth, reproduction, parenting, relationships, risk-taking, and long-term planning. In this framework, strategies are often described along a continuum from “fast” or short-term strategies, oriented toward immediate opportunities and risk-taking, to “slow” or long-term strategies, oriented toward planning, stability, investment, and future outcomes.

The Arizona Life History Battery is a self-report measure designed to assess life history strategy within an evolutionary psychology framework.

This online version includes the Mini-K, the brief opening section of the battery that provides a general index of “fast” versus “slow” life history strategy, and the K-SF-42, a later 42-item short form selected from the full 199-item ALHB to provide broader coverage of life history domains, including Insight-Planning-Control, Altruism, Religiosity, Mother/Father Relationship Quality, and Family/Friends Support.
