It captures three core components – commitment, control, and challenge – reflecting a resilient orientation toward stress, involvement in life activities, and the tendency to view difficulties as opportunities for growth.

Also available is the 45-item Dispositional Resilience Scale, introduced by P. T. Bartone in 1989 as a modified version of S. Kobasa's (1979) measure of personality hardiness. This version is sometimes referred to as the Hardiness Scale.
