Author's findings:

First, the score on the infatuation scale decreased with love and relationship duration in all studies, while the score on the attachment scale increased with love and relationship duration, albeit not in all studies. These findings, and the finding that the scores on the two scales are negatively related, are in line with the notions that with time infatuation diminishes while attachment increases.

Second, the score on the infatuation scale was especially high when participants were not involved in a relationship with their beloved. The score on the attachment scale, in contrast, was highest in advanced stages of relationships.

Third, a higher score on the infatuation scale was associated with increased negative affect, whereas a higher score on the attachment scale was associated with decreased negative affect. These findings are in line with the notions that infatuation is stressful while attachment has a calming effect.
