Report

• Thrill and Adventure Seeking (TAS)

The items express a desire to engage in sports or other physically risky activities that provide unusual sensations of speed or defiance of gravity, such as parachuting, scuba diving, or skiing. An attitude item that summarizes the factor is: «I sometimes like to do things that are a little frightening».

• Disinhibition (Dis)

The items describe a desire to engage in disinhibited social behavior as facilitated by alcohol in parties and impulsive sexual activities. A general item sums up the disinhibited attitude: «I like to have new and exciting experiences even if they are a little unconventional or illegal».

The Infrequency measure is just scored to determine individual test-taking validity. Any report of experience in these items raises the question of not understanding the instructions, carelessness, or negativism toward the test. If it was an isolated response, it may not invalidate the other scales. If it was due to a general misunderstanding of instructions, the test may have to be readministered or the results discarded. In a rare case a subject may have actually traveled up the Amazon or in Antarctica.
