Higher scores correspond to greater sexual-consciousness, sexual-monitoring, sex-appeal-consciousness, and sexual-assertiveness, respectively.

• The items on the Sexual-Consciousness subscale refer to the dispositional tendency to be aware of the internal aspects of one's sexuality. These items were designed to people's tendency to think about and to reflect about the nature of their sexual desires, motivations, and thoughts. People who endorse these items are those who introspect about their sexuality, who examine their sexual desires and motives, and who in general are reflective about the nature and dynamic features of their sexuality.

• The items on the Sexual-Monitoring subscale refer to the dispositional tendency to be aware of other people's reactions to one's sexuality. More specifically, these items were designed to measure people's public concern about the image which their sexuality projects. People who endorse these items are those who are concerned about the appearance of their sexuality and with how «sexual» others consider them to be.

• The items on the Sexual Assertiveness subscale refer to the dispositional tendency of being assertive about the sexual aspects of one's life. In particular, the items on this subscale were designed to measure the characteristic of being sexually assertive – i.e., decisive about one's sexuality and self-reliant about the pursuit and fulfillment of one's sexuality. People who have high scores on the sexual assertiveness subscale have a behavioral predisposition to be agentic and instrumental in the fulfillment of their sexual desires and motivations. They tend to take an instrumental, self-directed orientation to their sexuality, and they tend to rely more on themselves than on others in making decisions about their sexual behaviors.

• The items on the Sex-Appeal-Consciousness subscale refer to the dispositional tendency to notice when others consider one to be «sexy». These items were designed to assess the ability to decipher others' impression of oneself as sexy. People who agree with these items are those who can readily detect when other individuals regard them as sexy. They tend to be highly skilled at decoding and sensing when others consider them «sexy».
