10 |
EGO produces a numerical score which indicates a person's place on a continuum ranging from being “with the Tao” (observational acceptance) to “fighting against the Tao” (ego-grasping).
The score indicates a strong relationship to Western personality dimensions, but it is not a measure of “enlightenment” or “personality,” as from a Taoist perspective, personality is an alien concept.
Ego-grasping is defined as a dualistic stance marked by attempts to make things more positive while striving to eliminate the negative aspects of human experience, often motivated by idealism and guilt produced by ego-centered attempts to dominate and control experience.
