White Bear Suppression Inventory, WBSI

Test scores

Thought Suppression Scale
75][15
41

Higher scores indicate greater tendencies to suppress thoughts.

Reports of chronic thought suppression are related in tum to reports of obsession and expressions of negative affect such as depression and anxiety. Studies of the predictive validity of the thought suppression measure revealed that it is a useful construct for anticipating whether individuals will develop obsessive thoughts (but not compulsive behaviors), whether individuals who report wishing they were not depressed will in fact be depressed, and whether individuals who are exposed to emotion-producing thoughts will fail to habituate to them over time.
