Inventory of Interpersonal Problems (IIP-C, Circumplex) is a self-report measure derived from the original 127-item IIP (Horowitz et al. 1988). The IIP assesses interpersonal difficulties across eight dimensions organized around Birtchnell's interpersonal octagon model: Domineering, Vindictive, Cold, Socially Inhibited, Nonassertive, Overly Accommodating, Intrusive, Self-Sacrificing. Suitable for clinical use and research where a theoretically interpretable subscale structure is needed.
The IIP-40 is a 40-item short form of the IIP-C.
The IIP-C-IRT (IIP-32) is a 32-item short form of the IIP. This version was developed using item response theory (IRT) to optimize item selection and improve measurement precision while preserving the underlying octant structure. The IIP-32 assesses interpersonal difficulties across the same eight circumplex domains.
Different versions use slightly different labels for the same octants, but all are based on the same interpersonal circumplex structure.
