The Domino Test is a non-verbal, culture-free measure of intellectual ability originally developed by the British psychologist Edgar Anstey in 1944 for use in the British Army. It was designed as an alternative to Raven's Progressive Matrices, with the aim of assessing general intelligence (Spearman's g factor), focusing on abstract reasoning and the ability to detect patterns, while minimizing the influence of language and cultural background.
The test can be administered to individuals aged 12 and older. The knowledge of the game of dominoes is not required.
The online version presented here is the French adaptation D-48 (1959), which is the most widely used form of the Domino Test. D-70 (1970) is a parallel form, also published in France. It has a similar level of difficulty and comparable psychometric properties, allowing it to be used as an alternative version of the D-48.
In 1955, Edgar Anstey himself published a final revision of the test known as D-55, consisting of 48 items. This version was standardized on a sample of residents of Buenos Aires. The online version of D-55 uses the original percentile norms derived from that standardization.
Test is provided for educational and entertainment use only. It is not intended to be a psychological advice of any kind, and come without any guarantee of accuracy or validity. Assesment is free and anonymous. You can save the direct link to your results.
