Online version of the Situational Test of Emotional Understanding (STEU) and the Situational Test of Emotional Management (STEM), performance-based measures designed to assess key components of emotional intelligence within the ability model framework.
The STEU assesses emotion understanding – the ability to infer likely emotional responses from situational cues. Based on Roseman's appraisal theory, it presents brief scenarios and requires the respondent to select the most appropriate emotion, reflecting knowledge of how appraisal patterns relate to emotional outcomes.

The STEM assesses emotion management – the ability to select effective strategies for regulating emotions in real-life situations. It uses situational judgment items in which respondents choose the most effective response for managing emotional dynamics in interpersonal or practical contexts. The test was developed based on qualitative analysis of semi-structured interviews, and is scored by expert judgment.
