Online version of the Basic Empathy Scale (BES), a self-report measure designed to assess cognitive and affective empathy. The instrument is available in versions for adolescents and adults (BES-A), both based on the definition of empathy as the understanding and sharing of another person's emotional state or context. It distinguishes between emotion congruence (Affective Empathy) and understanding of others' emotions (Cognitive Empathy), using items reflecting basic emotional categories such as fear, sadness, anger, and happiness.
