In other words, it assesses whether respondents are responding truthfully or are misrepresenting themselves in order to manage their self-presentation.

60-item version includes Self-Deceptive Denial scale. «The items were not included in the standard 40-item version for several reasons. First, the item content is considered offensive by ethical review boards as well as many subjects. Second, SDD correlates highly with Impression Management scale under many conditions making it redundant. Third, the additional 20 items make the BIDR unwieldy for many purposes.»
